Hey there! Today I’m going to share with you this simple yet stunning DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Console Table build that only uses 7 boards and 1 laminated pine top.

With the prices of wood today, spending the least amount of money is key. I was able to make this table for under $70! This console table is super easy to build and takes only a few hours of your time.

Let the DIY| Home Inspiration begin!

How to build this DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Console Table

Supplies for the build:

  • 2- 2x2x8 framing lumber
  • 2- 1x3x8 framing lumber
  • 3- 1x2x8 framing lumber
  • 1 laminated pine board (0.656”x 15.75”x 48”)
  • wood glue
  • 1 1/2 inch pocket hole screws
  • 1 1/2 inch spax screws
  • 180 and 220 grit sandpaper
  • stain

Tools for Success:

  • miter saw
  • sander
  • kreg jig
  • clamp
  • wood glue
  • drill
  • eye protection
  • ear protection
  • stain

Making the Cuts

Step 1

Go ahead and make all of your cuts.

Cut list:

  • 4- 1×2 @ 45”
  • 5- 1×2 @ 12 3/4”
  • 13- 1×3 @ 12 3/4”
  • 4- 2×2 @ 29 1/4”
  • 1 laminated pine board (0.656”x 15.75”x 48”)

Drill 2 pocket holes on both ends of the boards with the kreg jig. (Do all boards except the laminated pine board and the 2×2’s).

Step 2

Make the table legs.

Use 1 1/2 inch pocket hole screws and wood glue to fasten the 12 3/4” 1×2 board (2) at the top of a set of 2×2 @ 29 1/4” legs (2 sets total). You want the boards to be flush with the side that will be facing the outside.

Measure 5 1/4” from the bottom of the legs and attached the other 2- 12 3/4” boards. The screws should be attached underneath and not visible.

Step 3

Place the DIY Pottery Barn Console Table legs on their sides with the top 1×2 flush the the outside and attach the (4) 45” 1×2’s (should be flushed with the top 1×2 and bottom 1×2).

Now you have the main frame complete for the console table as shown in picture 2. Picture 3 is showing the underside of the console table frame.

Step 4

Now, it’s time to attach the 1×3 @12 3/4” bottom slats. The spaces will be 3/4” apart by using a board turned

I kind of made a little mistake here but, I ended up making it work in the end. I measured 2 1/2” inches then started attaching my slats. Then when I made it to the end, I realized the spacing was right on one end but… not the other.

So, In picture 2, I added another 1×2 in the place of the gap… problem solved!

Step 5

Next, it’s time to attach the laminated pine table to the DIY Pottery Barn Console table frame.

Place the laminated board on your surface and pace the console frame on top of it. Make sure the frame lines up with the edges of the board and drill a 1/8” pilot hole. Now, use 1 1/2” spax screws and attach the frame to the top board.

The table is now fully put together.

Step 6

We’re so close to being done with the table.

Now, turn the table right side up and sand it 180 grit sand paper. Follow it up with 220 grit sand paper. Use a microfiber cloth and remove the sawdust.

Stain your DIY Pottery Barn Console Table with a stain of your choice. I chose the stain miniwax special walnut and it is beautiful! After you apply the stain and sealer, it’s time to decorate.
